Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday issued orders to withdraw 130 defamation cases filed against politicians from 2012 to 2021 and to stop further proceedings on the cases.

The list of politicians include DMDK founder Vijayakant, DMDK Treasurer Premalatha Vijayakant, senior Congress leader EVKS Elangovan, former CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan, politicians Pazha Karuppiah, Nanjil Sampath, Ministers KN Nehru, SM Nasar, MPs Kanimozhi, Dayanidhi Maran, RS Bharathi, RS Parthiban and DMK party spokespersons, Jayaram Venkatesan of Arappor Iyakkam and Ganesan of RSYF.

Stalin pays respect to 1971 war heroes

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister paid respect to the war heroes of 1971 Indo-Pakistan war at a function held in Chennai. The golden jubilee year of the war and the victory was celebrated in Chennai in which Chief Minister gave awards to families of three soldiers who died in the war and six soldiers who participated in it.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Tamil Nadu is always at the forefront when it comes to serving the nation and recollected the 1971 incident when former chief minister M Karunanidhi collected Rs 6 crore during the war. Out of the total Rs 25 crore collected across the country, Tamil Nadu contributed one fourth of the total amount, said Stalin.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister distributed welfare assistance for 50,000 unorganised labourers worth Rs 34.78 crore.
