Ahead of Vaccination drive on January 16, vaccines from Pune arrived in the Chennai along with the other cities like Gauhati, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneshwar, Bengaluru, Delhi, Patna, Chandigarh and Lucknow.

The Central government on Monday placed firm orders in advanced commitments for over six crore doses of vaccines from Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech for inoculating three crore healthcare and frontline workers in the first phase of the nationwide vaccination drive beginning January 16.

The first-phase of inoculation aims at frontline healthcare staffs, sanitation workers --- who make up to 3 crore--- followed by people above age 50 and people below 50 with co-morbidities, who make up to 27 crore.

A total of 5.56 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine arrived at Chennai on Tuesday, while a consignment of 20,000 Covaxin doses is yet to arrive as stated by TN Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.

Over 200 sites have undergone the 'dry run' across the state.

Chennai-(63,700), Kanchipuram-(10,900), Chengalpattu-(23,800), Thiruvallur-(19,600) summing up to a total of 1,18,000 doses.

Cuddalore-(7,800), Viluppuram-(11,500), Kallakurichi-(6,200) summing up to a total of 25,500 doses.

Tiruchirapalli-(17,100), Ariyalur-(3,300), Perambalur-(5,100), Pudukottai-(6,900), Karur-(7,800) summing up to a total of 40,200 doses.

Thanjavur-(15,500), Nagapattinam-(6,400), Thiruvarur-(6,700) summing up to a total of 28,600 doses.

Madurai-(23,100), Dindugal-(13,100), Virudhunagar-(9,700), Theni-(8,200) summing up to a total of 54,100 doses.

Sivaganga-(10,700), Ramanathapuram-(8,300) summing up to a total of 19,000 doses.

Tirunelveli-(10,900), Kanniyakumari-(22,600), Thenkasi-(5,100), Thoothukudi-(13,100) summing up to a total of 51,700 doses.

Vellore-(18,600), Ranipet-(4,400), Thirupathur-(4,700), Thiruvannamalai-(14,400) summing up to a total of 42,100 doses.

Salem-(27,800), Krishnagiri-(11,500), Namakkal-(8,700), Dharmapuri-(11,800) summing up to a total of 59,800 doses.

Coimbatore-(40,600), Erode-(13,800), Tiruppur-(13,500), Nilgiris-(5,300) summing up to a total of 73,200 doses.

Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami will kickstart the vaccination drive in Madurai on January 16.
