Revamp in State unit disturbs peace in TNCC
A day after the Congress national high command appointed a new set of office bearers for its Tamil Nadu unit, a few disgruntled functionaries ventilated their ire in public.

It also included a working president, who even hinted at quitting politics. Congress working president Mohan Kumaramagalam, son of former BJP veteran, Rangarajan Kumaramangalam, publicly discredited the revamp engineered by incumbent state president KS Alagiri, especially the rewarding of sons of a few former TNCC chiefs.
Expressing his disappointment on his official Facebook page, Mohan said, “Maybe it’s time for some hard decisions. A decade is a long time.” He also took a veiled dig at the appointment of sons of three former TNCC presidents and said, “In Tamilnadu Congress, the two rules seem to be. Never be a son without a father. Never be a father without a son. Never be a worker without money. Never hand money to a worker.” He criticised the appointment of Karthik Thangkabalu, ST Ramachandran and ThirumaganEvera as general secretaries. However, he was quick to silence BJP sympathizers, who attempted to lure him to Kamalalayam. “For those speculating: I would sooner leave politics than joining the BJP. This is my lifelong battle with them,” he added, expressing his disinterest in the BJP.
“As if the working president’s public repudiation of the revamp was not enough, the newly appointed chairman of the TNCC media wing,” A Gopanna took a jibe at Sivagangai MP Karti P Chidambaram for criticising the all-inclusive committees comprising 57 general secretaries and committees comprising dozens of members. Responding to Chidambaram junior’s “Jumbo committees” tweet, Gopanna wondered what right the MP has to question the enormity of numbers of committees when his native Sivagangai district Congress Committee comprised 12 vice presidents, 16 general secretaries, 30 secretaries and 25 joint secretaries.
Curiously, Karti was not the only functionary to pick holes in the revamp. TNCC spokesman SM Hidayathulla also highlighted the ‘neglect’ of minorities in reorganisation. Claiming that the party had suffered owing to the neglect of minorities in the previous two Assembly polls, Hidayatulla said that not one of the 57 secretaries was a Muslim. He also flagged the neglect of Tiruchy Velusamy in the reorganisation, which also overlooked spokesperson Americai Narayanan.
