NCB found cases dipping and again shooting up in 2020
Despite the pandemic-induced lockdown, the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) during the year 2020 had registered 20 cases, made 34 arrests, seized 96 kg of heroin and 1,675 kg of ganja among other drugs. In the year 2019, it was 28 cases and 48 arrests.

After the lockdown started, nearly for four months till July end, there were very less narco smuggling and criminal activities. By August, everything started getting back to normal, noted A Bruno, Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai zone.
In the year 2020, the NCB, Chennai zone hard seized 1,675 kg of ganja compared to the 1,698 kg of ganja seized in the year 2019. The NCB also recorded huge seizure of heroin with the help of Indian Coast Guard off Thoothukudi when they recovered 96 kg of narcotics powder, believed to have originated from Pakistan, from a Lankan fishing boat in November 2020. There was also a seizure of meth from the Lankan boat.
In the year 2019, there was a total seizure of 64 kg pseudoephedrine and 26 kg of ephedrine while in the year 2020 there was only a seizure of 2.5 kg ephedrine and 10 kg ketamine.
In the year 2020, the NCB seized 91 blots of LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) while in the previous year the seizure was only 20 blots.
