It may be recalled that these columns had in August last year highlighted how the group which sources funds from only its members and not outsiders remodelled an old bus stop near Ambur town at a cost of Rs 18,000.

The group which is not even willing to reveal the names of individual members told DT Next that this time addition of the toilet resulted in the renovation cost shooting up to Rs 90,000.

The toilet was added as many women who work in the local leather units use the bus stop and hence it would be useful for them.

“Men would not be allowed to use it,” they said.

The renovated facility was inaugurated by the owner of a small eatery nearby.

When asked why they had chosen an outsider for the honours, they replied, “his participation will ensure that the bus stop and toilet are looked after well.”

Today the facility is painted in yellow and saffron, carries a pix of the national flag and the legend “proud to be an India.”

Needless to say, the new facility has been welcomed by locals who accept that it was an eyesore earlier.
