Officials said that more than 200 wild elephants have migrated towards the forest reserve in Tamil Nadu from Karnataka and they were also being monitored to prevent any conflicts.

As these elephants are likely to stray into farmlands adjoining the forest cover and into nearby villages, the Krishnagiri Forest Department has urged people not to venture out unnecessarily in the dark.

A few days ago, a herd of elephants from the Sanamavu forest area crossed the road leading to Nagamangalam to reach the other side of the forest area.

“The movement of elephants led to a traffic snarl as buses, lories and other vehicles waited for over an hour for all the elephants to cross the road. There is also a possibility for elephants to raid crops and venture into villages in search of food and water. So as a precaution people have been asked to be cautious, especially during night,” said a Forest Department official.
