As many as 5,004 personnel in various battalions of Tamil Nadu Special Police have been transferred to the Armed Reserve wing in the rank of Grade II constable.

An order in this regard released from the DGP office had instructed the ADGP (Armed Reserve) to instruct the commandants of all the TSP battalions concerned to release the mentioned personnel from the wing before December 31 as the recruits to the battalions are scheduled to join on February 1, 2021. The new Armed Reserve personnel will be posted in Chennai as well as in other districts.

With the Assembly elections a few months away, the step is seen as a preparatory measure to increase the police strength for various poll-related work.

While the Chennai city police will receive 2,018 personnel, Kancheepuram district police will receive 240 personnel, followed by Coimbatore, 210.

The rest of the personnel are posted in other districts in the State.
