“One of the ministers is asking me to issue a White Paper on my income tax records. I am ready to do it. You can call the I-T department and get a list of the actors, who are paying tax properly and see where my name is mentioned. But one of the ministers in your cabinet was running a tea shop... Now, he has accumulated huge wealth and he is literally rolling over the money. Can you give a white paper on his source? How did he get it?” Kamal Haasan who began his second leg of campaigning told at a meeting of entrepreneurs at Kancheepuram. Though Haasan did not name the minister, it was well known that Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was running a tea shop in his home town in Theni.Kamal asserted that he and his party have every right to invoke the name of MG Ramachandran, founder of AIADMK and former chief minister, as they share his benevolence towards the poor.

“Now I am being asked why are you suddenly claiming legacy of MGR at the time of the election? What were you doing earlier? It means you (his critics) have remained deaf and blind. Our first slogan itself was “Naalai Namadhe”(title of MGR’s movie). But you are making money by invoking his name. We invoke the name of Mahatma Gandhi, MGR, Periyar and Ambedkar and wanted to imbibe their goodness into us,” Haasan said addressing his supporters at Porur junction as part of his second leg of campaigning for the ensuing State Assembly polls.

With the AIADMK leaders, including chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, has been lashing out at him for claiming MGR’s legacy, the actor-politician asserted that MGR wanted the poor students to have food at schools.

Haasan also lashed out at the ruling AIADMK for forgetting MGR.
