New terminal at Tiruchy airport to be completed by 2022
The construction of the upgraded terminal of Tiruchy airport would be completed by 2022 and dedicated to the country thereon, said the Executive Director (Engineering Southern Region) AAI Sanjeev Jindal here on Saturday.

Speaking to the reporters after reviewing the ongoing construction in the Tiruchy International airport, Sanjeev Jindal said, as of now, only 50 per cent of the works have been completed and the AAI has decided to dedicate one of the most aesthetically designed terminals in the country to the people of Tiruchy where several religious and various other important places are located. “Our objective is to build a terminal that can capture the essence of sentiments and spirituality of the place and at the same time offer the best infrastructure. We have taken into account the potential growth of the region for the next ten years and this infrastructure will be able to take care of the needs of the people of this region for more than a decade”, Jindal said. He also said that the entire process would be completed by 2022 and the new infrastructure would be dedicated to the country especially to the people of Tiruchy. He said that the apron which has been constructed in an estimated sum of Rs 63 crore would be completed by March 2021 while the terminal building to the tune of Rs 872 crore would be completed by December 2022.
According to the AAI, the new terminal is estimated to handle traffic of around 3.63 million passengers, on full capacity while the new terminal building is aimed to handle 2900 passengers at peak hour. The new two-level air-conditioned modular integrated terminal building is having an area of 61634 sqm. The building will be positioned parallel to the runway for smooth and efficient aircraft movements along with a 4 lane road on landside.
