The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) schools, have also enquired about the State’s preparations to start the academic session for its schools to conduct the Class 10 and 12 board exams. At present, there are more than 600 private schools and 100 CISCE institutions in Tamil Nadu.

A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that CBSE authorities have already approached education officers on the reopening, as many other states have already begun classes.

“CISCE also sent a circular to the State government seeking a report on beginning of classes,” he added. He pointed out that since both CBSE and CISCE exams were common pan India, both the Centre-based education governing bodies were keen on opening.

“Authorities here were closely monitoring the pandemic situation, to also consider opening State institutions for Classes 10, 11 and 12 so that students can appear for board exams,” he added.

Claiming that the State is not in a hurry to reopen schools unless health authorities give the green light, the official said, “Apart from health experts, opinion and feedback will once again be collected from the parents and teachers.” KR Nandhakumar, General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Nursery, Primary, Matriculation, Higher Secondary, and CBSE Schools, said, “All institutions were ready to adopt the SOPs so the government should allow the institutions to start functioning, especially for students appearing for the board exams.”
