    Prison staff refuse to lodge 2 trans persons in women’s jail: community members protest

    Tension prevailed after a group of trans-genders gathered in front of the special prison for women in Tiruchy against sending transgender accused, involved in forcing a minor boy into flesh trade, to the men’s prison late on Monday night.

    A  15-year-old  boy  from  Theni,  who    found    some    physical    changes  in  him  left  the  house  and was living under the care of  a  transgender  in  Dindigul.  In  such  a  backdrop,  two  days  back  two  transgenders  from  Tiruchy  who  were  identified  as Sathya (26) and Aparna (29) approached   the   boy   and   reportedly promised him to help him  for  his  Gender  Reassignment  Surgery  (GRS)  and  took  him to Tiruchy.On November 26 night, it is said,  both  Sathya  and  Aparna  reportedly   forced   him   into   flesh   trade.   However,      the   boy    escaped    and    informed    Childline.   Childline   officials   rescued   him   and   the   Child   Welfare     Committee     lodged     a  complaint  against  the  two  transgenders.  The  police  who  registered a case arrested both Sathya  and  Aparna  on  Mon-day and produced them before the court which ordered them to be lodged in prison.
    Subsequently,    the    police    took  them  to  the  Special  Pris-on   for   Women   in   Tiruchy.   However,    the    prison    staff    reportedly   refused   to   lodge   them   there.   Meanwhile,   on   information  about  the  arrest  and the refusal to take them in the  women’s  prison,  a  group  of   transgenders   reached   the   women  prison  premises  and  attempted to besiege it around 10.30  pm  and  raised  slogans  against the prison staff.The  police  held  talks  with  the agitating transgenders and later,  they  both  were  allowed  inside the women prison.
