In a brief chat with reporters here, he said he said he would hold consultations with his supporters and decide on his stand in the ensuing polls.

'My part will be there in the coming Assembly polls', he said, without elaborating further.

Asked about reports that he might join the BJP, he said he would not reply to false speculations. On the possibility of starting a new party, Alagiri, who is the eldest son of late Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi, said 'whatever be the decision it would be taken only after holding consultations with my supporters'.

A week earlier, ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the city, expelled former DMK MP K P Ramalingam joined the BJP and said he would try to convince Alagiri to join the saffron party.

Earlier, State BJP chief L Murugan had said, “So far, I (Murugan) have not received any information about Alagiri joining the party and if he wishes we will welcome him. BJP is open to all and many new persons from various parties are joining the BJP”.

However, MK Alagiri, denied the reports and said no one from the BJP had spoken to him.

Asked about Mr Murugan's remarks, he said the former had only expressed his opinion.
