In a freak incident, a 65-year-old woman died in a wild boar attack in The Nilgiris on Monday night. The victim identified as S Saroja alias Kaliyammal from Thendral Nagar in Kil Kotagiri had an unexpected encounter with the wild boar, when she rushed out of her house on hearing the loud screams of her neighbour. Officials said that the wild boar had charged on one John, 76, from the same neighbourhood. He suffered a severe injury in his leg and had cried aloud for help. On hearing his screams, Saroja came to his rescue, but she eventually met with a tragic end. The elderly woman was gored to death by the animal before it was retreating into the forest, said an official. The villagers then took the severely injured woman to a hospital, but she died on the way. Her neighbor had been taken to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
