DMK president MK Stalin made the announcement a few hours before Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami declaring that the government would foot the bill of government students in private colleges.

Reiterating that legal efforts would be made to scrap NEET after the DMK returns to power, Stalin, in a statement, said that only 227 seats were allotted in government medical colleges through the 7.5% reservation. Rest of the seats were allotted in private medical colleges and poor government school students were deeply affected owing to their inability to pay the college fees, Stalin said, adding that students and their parents, who relied heavily on the AIADMK regime, were left panicking as to whether their dreams would be shattered again.

Alleging that the AIADMK regime had reduced the reservation quantum of government school students to 7.5%, against the 10% proposed by a retired judge commission fearing it would anger their political masters in Delhi, Stalin said the ruling party considered its job done after reducing the quota.
