The teachers from government and aided schools have Educational Management Information System (EMIS), a common platform that connects them with students, managements and parents. A senior official from School Education Department told DT Next that the new portal, Tamil Nadu Teacher Platform (TNTP), is the state-owned portal that would also be a centralised repository accessible to teachers across the State.

“Resources are aligned to State syllabus and classified on the basis of class, subject and term for ease of access. Each teacher will have a unique 8-digit username and password assigned by EMIS,” he said. E-textbooks of both Tamil and English mediums from Classes 1 to 12 are available for the teachers, the official said. “Question paper archives for each grade and subject catalogued chapter-wise will also be available for reference,” he added.

The content that are available on the portal would be in various file formats such as PowerPoint Presentation (PPT), video, audio, images, or a link to YouTube and Google drive. “However, scanned handwritten copies and diary entries cannot be uploaded as per the norms,” the official said.

The portal would be useful for the teachers working in government and aided schools, numbering more than 3.5 lakh. Also, the teachers can upload any type of digital resources and share it across the teaching community network officially.

“Teachers can take online training courses using this exclusive online platform. The TNTP will also provide a platform to offer courses for teachers, which they can take up for their professional development.” The portal would also be made available as a mobile application. “The installation procedure of TNTP mobile was made very simple. When there is no internet connectivity, the app would allow teachers to download the course and use it offline,” he explained. “There is also a separate option called COVID-19 where the users could clarify/clear any doubts with regard to the government initiatives to control coronavirus cases in the State,” said the official.
