With almost whole of North India painted saffron and significant footprint in North East India, South India (with exception of Karnataka) has been a totem of embarrassment for the BJP.

Especially in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where BJP's overall national performance or wave so to say, never reflected in votes. BJP is running pillar to post to turn the tables in Tamil Nadu in the upcoming assembly polls in 2021.

Part of such a strategy could be bringing in DMK's former strongman and M Karunanidhi's elder son MK Alagiri into its fold.

Amit Shah lands in Chennai on November 21 to discuss poll strategies with the Tamil Nadu's party administration.

MK Alagiri could be the talisman that might overturn BJP's jinxed track record in the Dravidian heartland.

But, Alagiri's side had refuted that such an event's probability. He said he is in discussions with his loyalists whether to float a party or pledge support to some other party.

Any of these could turn a headache to DMK which is anxious to end its 10-year power drought. This is because if anti-ADMK votes gets split between other parties then DMK's chances would dwindle.

MK Alagiri was ousted from the party after a palpable internecine between his and his younger brother and DMK's CM candidate probable MK Stalin's factions. This simmering friction came out to the public in 2014 when MK Alagiri was sacked from the party.

BJP making its fortunes turn on its head in just one election may be farfetched, but every vote that is eaten out of DMK's votes could just be enough for the Hindutva party to claim its 'victory.'
