7.5 per cent quota: 405 seats for govt school students

Of the total 24,712 applications received for medical admissions under the government quota in government and private medical colleges, 23,707 candidates have been accepted, including 8,765 boys and 14,942 girls.

Under the 7.5 per cent reservation for government school students, 405 seats have been allotted, including 313 MBBS seats and 92 BDS seats.

In total, as many as 3,650 MBBS seats are there in 26 government medical colleges. Among them, 227 MBBS seats and 12 BDS seats have been reserved for 7.5 per cent special quota for government school students. In 15 self-financing colleges, out of 2,100 MBBS seats, 1,061 seats have been reserved under the State quota and 86 seats for 7.5 per cent special reservation.

At least 15,885 applications from State Board candidates and 7,366 applications from CBSE/SSCE students have been chosen eligible for medical admissions under government quota in Tamil Nadu. As many as 285 students from ICSE/ISC board and 171 students from other boards have been chosen for the government quota this year. Around 14,276 applications were accepted in management quota. While around 9,596 students from the 2020-batch have applied for admissions under government quota, a total of 14,111 previous year students have also become eligible for the medical admissions in the State. At least 80 applications were received from special category candidates, while 412 applications are received under the sports quota. Aa many as 448 candidates of ex-servicemen applied, too.

A total of 1.16 lakh students appeared for NEET exam this year in Tamil Nadu, of which 57,217 medical aspirants have cleared the exam.
