Many organisations have filed petitions in High Courts and Supreme Court of India to ban online rummy which has an adverse effect on youngsters. Several cases of gambling addiction and depression over money loss have driven people to take drastic steps to end life.

In this case, a plea has been filed in Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Monday to ban online rummy in Tamil Nadu which has witnessed a spurt in suicides among youth in recent months.

The court said it would consider the case if a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is filed instead of a petition.

Earlier, the Madurai Bench had suggested that both the Central and state governments can pass laws banning online games including online rummy, card games and other skill-based games that are played with money citing the recent ordinance issued by Telangana government which has banned such online games.
