KN Nehru was very particular not to involve his family members in politics after the death of his brother KN Ramajayam and he has pointed it out on many occasions.

However, after his elevation as the Principal Secretary, Nehru felt hesitant to make someone to look after the party affairs as he has earned several enemies within, that too after Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi’s political prominence. Those close to Nehru suggested him to engage his son Arun Nehru to monitor the day to day activities in Tiruchy and Nehru took to the idea. Arun Nehru, a modest businessman and a camera shy person did not want to involve himself as a full time politician. However, owing to the circumstances, Arun accepted the suggestion.

Arun become a DMK member recently. “Since he (Nehru) has to stay in Chennai after the elevation, Annan (Nehru) was worried about the activities in Tiruchy which he loves a lot. When Arun accepted the suggestions, he was really elated and asked him to be present in the party office every day and meet people as well as the party men,” a person close to Nehru told DT Next.

“He (Arun) is so nice, simple and smooth with every single party man. Though Annan (Nehru) used to show temper at times, Arun never frowns at anyone. He smiles and gently speaks to everyone. We see a real replacement of Nehru in him,” the elated party man said.
