Over 87K engg seats remain vacant after counselling
With the counselling and provisional allotment for students seeking engineering courses in Tamil Nadu neared its end, less than 15 colleges across the State was able to fill 100% seats while over 87,900 seats remained vacant this academic year.

Of the total 461 engineering colleges, including Anna University, which participated in the counselling, conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) only a little over 71,195 seats could be filled this season against last year’s figure of 83,396.
Amid the pandemic situation, Tamil Nadu Engineering Counselling (TNEA 2020), which started on October 8, witnessed as many as 1.12 lakh students, who wanted to pursue engineering and vocational courses.
While Anna University and its four constituent colleges were able to get 100% admissions, less than five self-financed engineering institutions across the State secured 100 per cent enrolment of the students. Data provided by DoTE also revealed that of the 14 government engineering colleges, only a few State-run institutions could fill 100% seats with about 50 seats still vacant.
“More than 60% colleges have managed to get only 10% of admissions this year,” a senior DoTE official said adding that about 20 institutions could not get even single admission.
