OPS pays homage to Maruthu brothers

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam along with Ministers from various portfolios paid homage at their memorial in Tirupattur. Amidst a gathering of people, the Deputy Chief Minister paid homage by 

garlanding the full-sized statues of the freedom fighters.

Subsequently, Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management RB Udhayakumar, Minister for Information and Publicity Kadambur C Raju, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries Board G Baskaran, Minister for Health C Vijayabaskar, Food Minister R Kamaraj and Minister for Handlooms and Textiles OS Manian followed suit in paying tributes to the freedom fighters at the memorial.

The Deputy Chief Minister along with fellow ministers paid tributes to the freedom fighters (Maruthu brothers) at the memorial pillar, which remains in existence near Tirupattur bus stand, where the British hanged the Maruthu Pandiyar brothers on the tree, sources said.

Earlier, Sivaganga Collector J. Jayakanthan, Superintendent of Police R Rohit Nathan and officials from Department of Revenue paid tributes on the occasion at the memorial. Later, OPS while speaking to media, extolled the virtues, which still exist, of courage and sacrifice of these freedom fighters.
