Guv’s delay may deprive govt students of 7.5 pc quota this year, says PMK founder

“Information from Governor’s office indicate that the Governor may take another 21 days to give consent to the NEET sub-quota Bill. If the delay happens, government school students will not be able to get reservation in medical colleges this year,” said Ramadoss, in a tweet.

Based on the recommendations of Justice P Kalaiyarasan Committee, the state government passed a bill providing 7.5 per cent internal reservation for NEET. However, the Governor had not given consent to the Bill for close to 40 days.

Ramadoss said that the delay will force state government to proceed with the existing reservation practices. “If Medical Council of India (MCI) sets November as the deadline for conducting counselling for medical colleges, the state government will be forced to conduct the counselling. If medical counselling happens without Governor giving consent to the new NEET Bill, government school students will not be getting the reservation benefit,” said Ramadoss, who also questioned whether the power centres wish for this to happen.
