MBBS counselling, cut-off in State likely to be delayed

The NEET rank list and cut-off in State were expected to be released by next week but sources from the Directorate of Medical Education said that medical counselling, that was expected to be conducted in October last week, will now be held in November only. The Directorate of Medical Education, Tamil Nadu will be releasing the cut-off lists by October last week for the medical admissions across the State.

If the 7.5 per cent reservation for government school students is applied this year, it is likely to affect the number of medical seats available for general category counselling and thus the cut-off will be based on the same. The NEET cut-off is likely to be higher this year as the pass percentage and the highest marks obtained by the candidates from Tamil Nadu are higher in UG NEET 2020. As per sources from the Health Department, the number of seats is to be finalised as six new medical colleges are to start functioning from this academic year.

The nationwide cut-off marks this year for the general category is likely to be about 147 marks, which is 13 marks more than last year. For the unreserved differently-abled students, the cut-off is to range between 146-129 marks based on the 45th percentile. The cut-off for SC, ST and OBC are to remain between the 128-113 range.

Of a total of 7,71,500 candidates qualified for NEET-UG 2020 in the country, at least 6,82,406 medical aspirants have scored in the range of 720-147 across the State. As many as 15 per cent of medical seats will be reserved for the All India Quota seats and the cut-off for the same has been decided by the Directorate of General of Health Services.

A total of 85 per cent accounts for about 3,500 medical seats in Tamil Nadu. At least 57,217 students have qualified for NEET in the State. With highest obtained marks being 710, the cut-off for medical admissions in TN is likely to be higher this year.
