A 22-year-old girl bravely chased a bike-borne chain snatcher using her scooter and got him arrested in Tiruchy on Saturday.

It is said, J Divyadharsini (22) from Karumandapam in Tiruchy, who had completed Bachelors in Engineering at a private engineering college in Panchapur in the Tiruchy-Madurai bypass was returning from her college after collecting her transfer certificate on her scooter. A youth, who was following her suspiciously on his bullet, suddenly, overtook the girl’s scooter and attempted to snatch away her chain. When he failed to do so, he snatched the handbag she had hung in the front of the scooter and escaped.

The girl started chasing him on her scooter, who had escaped en route E-Pudhur. The girl, who noticed the number of his bullet even in the tensed situation, drove to E-Pudhur.

The girl, who was on the way to her house, had noticed the same bullet which was parked along the road in RMS colony in Karumandapam. Without waiting, she soon called her father, P Jegannath, and also alerted the police by contacting 100.

Subsequently, the police identified the address of the bullet owner by the vehicle number and went to the house on Joshwa street in Karumandapam. The police identified the youth as Ajit alias Ezhumalai (20), a habitual chain snatcher. They recovered the handbag and handed it over to the girl. The police also appreciated the girl for her timely alert and courageous chasing of a chain snatcher. Ezhumalai was arrested.
