“Why is the AIADMK government acting against the interests of Dalits. What happened to the Panchami land committee appointed in 2015 to reclaim land for Dalits,” asked Ravikumar, in a tweet. The state government appointed a three-member centralised panel to identify Panchami land which was encroached by people of other castes and to handover the land to Dalits. However, the committee had not submitted its report for the past five years. Ravi Kumar said that based on the demands of VCK, DMK government in 2011 formed a committee under the chairmanship of retired Justice Marudhamuthu but after AIADMK government took charge the committee was disbanded. Following the High Court intervention, the state government formed a committee but had been lying dormant. “This shows that AIADMK is not willing to handover the encroached land to Dalits,” said Ravikumar.
