AIADMK is leader of alliance in TN: Pon Radhakrishnan’s U-turn

The confusion that prevailed in the alliance between AIADMK and BJP seem to have been settled temporarily as former union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, who initially criticised the nomination of incumbent Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, as the chief ministerial candidate, made an U-turn, on Sunday, by clarifying that the Dravidian party is the leader of the alliance.

BJP is part of AIADMK alliance and as far as Tamil Nadu is concerned the ruling party is leading the alliance. However, as BJP is a national party and any decision on the alliance for the 2021 Assembly elections will be taken by the party leaders in Delhi,” said Pon Radhakrishnan, while addressing the media, in Kanniyakumari.

The friction became AIADMK and BJP became public once again when Palaniswami was announced as the Chief Minister candidate for the forthcoming elections.

However, BJP leaders including Pon Radhakrishnan criticised the announcement by saying that there was no need to announce the Chief Minister candidate well ahead of the elections and also questioned how AIADMK can announce a Chief Minister candidate when the alliance is yet to be finalised.

Pon Radhakrishnan went a step ahead by saying that they (BJP) can even ally with DMK.

Same reactions were echoed by State BJP Secretary K Srinivasan who also said that the state will witness many political changes before the election, indicating the release of VK Sasikala and the changes to follow.

Meanwhile, Pon Radhakrishnan’s statement accepting that AIADMK is the head of their alliance in Tamil Nadu had settled the confusion temporarily.

‘Dravidian parties will always lead alliance’

State Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar had once again affirmed that Dravidian parties will lead the alliance in Tamil Nadu.

“Be it DMK or AIADMK, only Dravidian parties will lead the alliance. Though national parties have been part of alliance for several years they will not lead the alliance in Tamil Nadu”, said the minister.
