TNEA 2020: Computer Science with AI, top choice for engg aspirants

A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) told DT Next that more than 5,000 candidates opted their choice of courses and colleges and made initial payment online till 5 pm on day 1 of general category counselling. Of them, most preferred Computer Science and Engineering with Artificial Intelligence course, the official said and added that Anna University and its constituent colleges were the most sought-after preference for many of the students.

The second most preferred course was Information Technology, Mechatronics and Electronics, and Communication Engineering courses. Some also opted for core streams like chemical and mechanical engineering.

“This time, students can choose any number colleges and courses. The seat allotment will be based on the availability of seats in their preferred institutions,” he said. Some of the candidates also opted for Aeronautical, Electrical and Electronics, Civil, Electronics and Instrumentation. “There still are several days of counselling remaining; the trend might change,” added the official.

Students who secured between rank 1 and 12,263 (cut-off marks from 199.6 to 175) were called to participate in the first round of counselling, which will be held from October 8 to October 11.

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2020 (TNEA 2020) is conducted completely online, including registration, payments, choice filling, allotment and confirmation. “Web-link connecting payment have been provided all students who participated in the counselling,” he said.

To help aspirants who do not have internet access to participate in online counselling, the directorate reopened students’ facilitation centres (SFC) across the State, where they could fill their choice of course and colleges, and pay the fees.

In the second round of counselling to be held from October 12 to October 15, students with aggregate marks between 174.5 and 145 will participate.
