The incident happened on September 17, when the woman was about to sleep. Two persons allegedly came on a bike at around 11.30 pm, introduced themselves as police, and took her for ‘questioning’ to a secluded place and had reportedly raped her along with their friends. The gang is believed to have dropped the injured woman in the early hours following day at the same spot from where she was picked and fled.
A mess owner Karthik, spotted the struggling and bleeding woman, and tried to contact 100 helpline in vain. He later contacted the advocates and social activists Jayanthi Ranee and Chithra, who rushed to the spot and rescued the woman. The activists informed the police and also registered a complaint. Based on it, Woraiyur police Inspector Vijayakumar and his team along with the all-women police inspector Ananda Vedavalli rushed to the spot and admitted the woman in the MGM hospital, where she has been undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, based on the statement of the victim, advocate Jayanthi Ranee sent a complaint to the Chief Minister, District Collector and the City Commissioner of Police.
“She was in utmost shock but could recall that something had happened to her. When we went on inquiring about the incident in detail, she could tell us the incident and soon we lodged a complaint stressing to identify the culprits and arrest them immediately”, said Jayanthi Ranee.
On Tuesday, the Assistant Commissioner (Srirangam) Sundaramurthi and his team arrested two persons identified as Mustafa and Siva and registered a case under various sections including IPC 376 D (Gang Rape) and are searching for two more accused.
