Unaided private educational institutions in Tamil Nadu were permitted to collect 75 per cent of the tuition fees in two instalments. In an order by the Madras High Court, the institutions were allowed to collect 40 per cent of tuition fees in advance on or before August 31 and the remaining within two months, starting from the date of reopening of the institutions. However, most of the private institutions failed to honour the order and have been demanding the entire fees. On reopening of schools, the Minister recalled the statement by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami that a decision would be taken considering the views of parents and the COVID-19 cases count. The Centre has allowed states for a partial reopening of schools from September 21.
Ruling out the possibility of distributing free laptops to all students, including those from lower-class considering the financial situation of the government, Sengottaiyan reiterated that the State government is firm on following the two language policy.
