Honouring the Periyar statue on his 142nd birth anniversary, Nehru told the reporters that the people from Tamil Nadu will always remember Periyar for his stand against oppression and support towards minorities and Dalits. “Whenever someone talks about Periyar and his policies or any people welfare, the Centre misunderstands it as if it is directed against them. Soon, those who spoke would be threatened with I-T raids,” Nehru stressed. Answering to a query on the demand of Deputy Chief Minister Post by Congress, Nehru said that there was no such demand and the TNCC President KS Alagiri has cleared it already. Meanwhile, Nehru stressed that the DMK has been insisting the State government to pass a resolution on NEET on par with Jallikattu and approach the Centre to get exemption on the examination. Refusing the statements of DMK allowing Methane and Hydrocarbon projects in Tamil Nadu, Nehru said that the DMK only allowed to conduct a test, but never allowed to execute the project. “However, the AIADMK government allowed the Sterlite to function in Thoothukudi,” he said.
