Tamil Nadu on Monday reported 5,752 persons testing positive for the coronavirus while 53 (34 from Government and 19 from Private hospitals) died due to the pandemic.

A total of 5,799 Covid-19 recovered patients were discharged from various hospitals on Monday. According to the state health ministry, as many as 4.5 lakh (4,53,165) persons have recovered from COVID-19.

There are 5 lakh (5,08,511) COVID positive cases throughout the state. The current recovery rate of the state has improved to 89.1 per cent.

Only 46,912 persons are under treatment in the state.

Tamil Nadu recorded 53 new deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic on Monday against 74 the day before. As per data, 8,434 persons had died due to the virus in the state.

Meanwhile, Chennai is reporting less than 1,000 new cases consistently for nearly a week. The city registered 991 new cases and 23 deaths on Monday. The active cases in the city stands at 10,436.

Coimbatore continued to report higher number of cases with 498 people testing positive on Monday. Chengalpattu saw 364 cases on a single day while Salem, Cuddalore and Thiruvallur reported over 290 cases.

Tamil Nadu has tested 59,68,209 samples and 57,79,589 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.
