    Tamil Nadu adds 5,495 new cases, 76 deaths , recovery rate at 88.8 pc

    A total of 6,227 Covid-19 recovered patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamil Nadu on Saturday while 5,495 persons tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours, said the State Health Department.

    COVID-19 cases held steady on Saturday in Tamil Nadu as it reported under 6,000 cases (5,584).

    According to the state health ministry, as many as 4,41,649 persons have recovered from COVID-19, which is a 88.8 percent recovery rate as on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, more than 4.9 (4,97,066) lakh cases were reported throughout the state.

    A total of 6,227 Covid-19 recovered patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamil Nadu on Saturday while 5,495 persons tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours, said the State Health Department.

    On the other hand, only 47,110 persons are under treatment in the state.

    The latest reports said that 76 people died in Tamil Nadu since Friday night. As per the data, 8,307 persons had died due to the virus in the state.

    Chennai registered 978 new cases and 17 deaths. The active cases in the city stands at 10,645.

    Coimbatore, Thiruvallur, Salem recorded highest number of cases after Chennai with 428, 299 and 289 new infections while Chengalpattu, Cuddalore and Tiruppur reported over 250 cases.

    Tamil Nadu has tested 58,03,778 samples and 59,19,012 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.

    The number of Covid-19 cases between the age of 0-12 has risen to 21,701 in the state.
