Minister of Information and Publicity Kadambur Raju was clear that theatres will not be open for IPL match screening.

He gave the statement meeting the press after a function.

IPL begins at September 19 in Dubai, since filmmakers aren't interested to bring their films to screen now, IPL screening could generate revenue and resume footfall.

2020 has been a rough year as theatres were shuttered indefinitely from March due to pandemic lockdown.

Raju last month had voiced concerns over revenue loss for theatres, cinema workers and the consequent loss for government. But he said with the view of pandemic situation there is be done nothing about the theatres as it could fetch crowds.

Also he opined OTT release is not good for the cinema business but still since OTT streaming is legally sound nothing could be done about that either.

However, Kadambur Raju was sure that unless things get revived back to normalcy by successfully curtailing the virus, status quo of theatres shall remain.
