Not reel, but real as police nab chain snatchers after hot pursuit

On Friday evening, two youth who snatched chains from several women in Lalapettai in Karur district and escaped from the spot. People who noticed them, were chased them for some distance Sensing danger the duo jumped into the Cauvery river and swam towards Mahendramangalam in Tiruchy district.

On seeing this, the Kulithalai DSP passed on the information to Musiri DSP Brahmmanathan who tightened the area with police security with the support of Thottiyam Inspector Chandra Sekar and Sub Inspector Kumar and other police personnel.

Subsequently, the police found the two youth reaching the shore at Mahendramangalam area and rushed to secure them.

On seeing the police the duo swam back and chased them in the water and nabbed them and brought them to the banks of the river after tying their hands backwards.

Later, the police conducted an elaborate inquiry in which they identified them as Arun Kumar (26) from Burma Colony in Thanjavur and Vadivel (25) from Sunaipuganallur near Mannachanallur in Tiruchy. Subsequently, the Musiri DSP handed over the duo to the Kulithalai DSP. A case was registered against them. Further investigations are on.
