    Nod for 5 special trains to Chennai from various cities in Tamil Nadu

    Express train services would resume in the state from September 7. The Railway Board has approved operation of five special trains, including three connecting Chennai and Coimbatore.

    Train no 12675/76 Chennai - Coimbatore express superfast intercity special, train no 12679/80 Coimbatore - Chennai superfast special, train no 12674 Coimbatore-Chennai special, train no 02083/84 Coimbatore- Mayiladuthurai janshatabdi special and train no 06795/96 Chennai Egmore –Tiruchy special would be operated from September 7. Train no 12673 Chennai- Coimbatore special would be operated from September 8, a circular issued by the operations department of Southern Railway on Thursday said.

    SR has sought the permission of Railway Board (RB) to operate around 13 special trains in the state. The Chief Passenger Traffic Manager (CPTM) of SR on Thursday wrote to the coaching wing of RB for operating six pairs of special trains in addition to seven special trains it had requested a couple of days ago.

    In his letter dated September 3, T Sivakumar, CPTM, SR, has asked the board to permit operation of train no 12633/12634 Chennai Egmore –Kanniyakumari express, train no 12693/12694 Chennai Egmore – Thoothukudi Pearl City express, train no 12671/12672 MGR Chennai Central –Mettupalayam Nilgiri express and train no 16181/16182 Chennai Egmore – Sengottai Silambu express.

    The zone has also asked the Railway Board to approve operation of train no 12637/12638 Chennai Egmore – Madurai Pandian and train no 12673/12674 MGR Chennai Central – Coimbatore Cheran expresses.

    Going by Thursday’s letter, the zone had written to the Board even on Wednesday for resumption of services of seven pairs of special trains

    “We are ready. Required staff would be asked to report to duty as soon as the board gives consent,” a SR officer said.
