On Sunday, police said that during a vehicle check by the policemen attached to Koomapatti police station on Thursday, a two-wheeler was intercepted for triple riding. On enquiry, police found that the riders did not have a valid driving license, registration certificate, insurance for the vehicle, besides the two-wheeler did not have a number plate on the front side and the rear side number plate had partial registration number details. Moreover, they did not wear helmets and face masks.

The riders claimed that they were working on contract basis in Tangedco and that their contractor had given them the two-wheeler for official use. They could not give proper details of the owner of the vehicle. Owing to multiple violations, the police seized the vehicle and took it to the police station. But, however no case could be immediately registered as the vehicle did not have a registration number.

After some minutes, an Assistant Engineer from Tangedco’s Koomapatti office called the police and requested them to release the two-wheeler. The police asked the Tangedco official to produce the relevant documents.

Immediately after the snapped call, the police station plunged into darkness due to a power cut around 20 15 hours. Initially the policemen thought that it was a power disruption. However, power did not return for nearly two hours making them suspicious. The policemen then learnt that it was an act of revenge and brought it to the notice of Superintendent of Police P Perumal, who in turn conveyed it to District Collector R Kannan. The power supply was then restored.

The SP said they have sent a report on the incident to the Tangedco officials seeking departmental action against the erring worker.
