Innovation, dedication bring national award for these TN teachers

For S Dilip, this year’s national award-winning teacher from Tamil Nadu, teaching should be innovative and practical so that students could easily understand the subject quickly. A teacher of English with a Government HSS in Villupuram district, Dilip has to his credit a ‘fast-track course for reading’ and ‘gamified grammar’ methodology to enthuse students and help them grasp topics easily.

“I developed a ‘gamified grammar’ teaching method for the students, which got the recognition from the National Council of Educational Research and Training. The council permitted the schools to take classes in that method,” Dilip told DT Next.

With more than 20 years’ teaching experience, Dilip also introduced a new technology to teach English. “I developed reading skills of the students and arranged knowledge exchange programmes for them with their counterparts in foreign countries.”

Likewise, another national award-winning teacher RC Saraswathi, headmistress of Government Girls HSS in Ashok Nagar, Chennai, dedicate her honour to teachers, students, and School Education Department officials. “Everyone cooperated with me in developing the school,” she said.

Recollecting the 2015 flood in Chennai, Saraswathi said her school was in a bad shape then. “With the help of NGOs and officials, I worked hard to develop the school infrastructure,” she said.

Saraswathi, who also has M.Sc, M.Phil, and M.Ed qualification and 30 years’ experience, said she also encouraged maximum extracurricular activities.

“In our school, we encourage students to join NCC, NSS, Echo Club, handicraft etc, she said.

Both the teachers have received communication from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the award will be presented to them in New Delhi shortly. The award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a medal.
