    Different political parties here on Saturday condemned the closure of the century old Anglo-French Textile(AFT) Mills here.

    Managing Director of the mill Priyadarshini in an order yesterday announced that all the units of the AFT mills are closed with effect from April 30 this year.Condemning the closure DMK(South) Covener R Siva MLA, said that  five percent export contribution of textile in the country was once from the AFT mills which provided employment to 7500 directly and another 5000 indirectly.Corruption and mismanagement led to the mill becoming sick.

    The Congress came to power promising job to one in a family and closed PASIC, PAPSCO and Ration shops which provides jobs and now the AFT mills , he said adding that  apprehension is there among the workers that the Swadeshi and Bharathi textile mills would also be closed. The DMK will not allow the closure of any textile mills, Siva said adding that if the desire of the Lt.Governor only will be implemented here, then what is the use of the ‘dummy Chief Minister post elected by the people and what is the need for Assembly elections here.

    There is no doubt that the Lt. Governor is playing politics  the Assembly elections next year in view, Siva said. Condemning the move, DMK (North) Convener SP Sivakumar said that  30-4-2020 is a black day in the history of Puducherry.AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbazhagan charged  that the congress-DMK government which failed to bring any industry here in the last 51 months rule closed several industries.

    He said the cooperative sugar mill which was functioning more than 40 years was closed  and 600 ration shops across the state were closed.
