Nearly 80 per cent active caseload outside Chennai, Covid cases steady in Tamil Nadu
The death toll however breached the 119 mark again on Thursday. The total number of Covid fatalities in the state now stands at 5,397.

COVID-19 cases held steady on Thursday in Tamil Nadu as it reported under 6,000 cases (5,835).
According to the state health ministry, as many as 2,61,459 persons have recovered from COVID-19, which is a 81.6 percent recovery rate as on Thursday evening. Meanwhile, more than 3.2 (3,20,355) lakh cases were reported throughout the state.
A total of 5,146 Covid-19 recovered patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamil Nadu on Thursday while 5,835 persons tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours, said the State Health Department.
On the other hand, only 53,499 persons are under treatment in the state, which is around 16.7 per cent
The latest reports said that 119 people died in Tamil Nadu since Wednesday night. As per the data, 5,397 persons had died due to the virus, which is 1.68 per cent mortality rate.
Chennai is witnessing less than a thousand new cases of Covid-19 every day for the past one week. Its active caseload has come down to ten thousand. It is about 20.3 per cent of the total active caseload in Tamil Nadu.
Chennai on Thursday reported 989 persons being tested positive with 18 deaths.
As on date, 1,13,058 persons were tested positive for the COVID-19 in the city and 99,806 were discharged, while 10,868 people are still undergoing treatment. A total of 2,384 persons died with a mortality rate of 0.7 per cent.
Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur recorded highest number of cases after Chennai with 453 and 390 new infections while Kovai, Cuddalore and Theni reported over 250 cases.
Tamil Nadu has tested 34,99,300 samples and 33,75,596 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.
The number of Covid-19 cases between the age of 0-12 has risen to 15,614 in the state.
