Remarking that 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) hastily implemented by the ruling BJP has undermined social justice at every stage of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) recruitment, Stalin said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a member of the OBC community who came forward to provide economy based reservation (to upper castes), should hold detailed consultations with the ministry concerned and render justice to OBCs and SC/STs.

He also urged the Centre to conduct a transparent review of 2019 civil service recruitment, resolve the anomalies and render justice.

Comparing the cut off marks of OBCs (95.34) and EWS (90) among upper castes for preliminary exams, Stalin said that despite scoring 5.34 marks less than OBCs, the EWS among the upper castes were selected for main exams. The cut off marks in main exam was 718, 706 and 699 for OBCs, SCs and STs, while the same was 696 for the EWS quota candidates, he said, reasoning that the economic reservation has pushed OBCs, SCs and STs, who had availed their reservation rights based on social justice, behind EWS among upper castes.

Based on the interview cut off, it was evident that EWS were selected for IAS, IFS and IPS on securing 909 marks, while injustice was meted out to OBCs candidates who had to score 925 marks for the same.

Stating that the rank list released by the UPSC for IAS suggests lack of transparency in interview cut off marks, the president of the third largest party in the Parliament said that only 829 candidates were selected and announced for the 927 posts and the remaining 98 have been kept in the reserve list without their names being made public.

“Why this black out? Why are OBCs, SCs and STs denied the opportunity to participate in the nation’s growth and secure their rights in the administrative infrastructure required for it?” asked Stalin, adding that it was worrisome that the economic reservation introduced by the ruling BJP with the intention to destroy social justice has brought such a disrepute to the UPSC.
