CM to brief PM on COVID-19 situation, ask for more funds today
In a video conferencing call, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the ongoing COVID-19 measures in the state on Tuesday.
Chennai
“Prime Minister is holding a meeting with Chief Ministers of eight states, including Tamil Nadu, where COVID-19 cases are high. In the meeting, CM will present the ongoing COVID19 relief steps in the state along measures to arrest fatalities,” said sources.
Ever since lockdown commenced towards the end of March, Prime Minister had been holding regular meetings with Chief Ministers to assess COVID-19 conditions across the country. Sources said that so far, Tamil Nadu had demanded more than Rs 13,500 from the Union government in the meetings with Prime Minister, but so far only around Rs 2,000 crore had been disbursed to the state.
Sources also said that in the meeting with Prime Minister on Tuesday, the Chief Minister is likely to place another set of financial demands for Tamil Nadu to undertake COVID-19 relief measures. “The state is already facing financial crunch and so the CM will once again urge the Centre to disburse fund during the interaction with Modi,” said sources. Since the Centre had relaxed several services, the state may also ease more curbs, including those in public transport after the meet.
Meanwhile, the CM held a review meeting about COVID-19 drive in Kallakurichi district.
