As the Directorate of Exams did not release any analysis report, including the district-wise performance of the students, the data merely showed a total of 9,39,829 students were to appear for the exams and of the total candidates, 4.68 are girls and about 4.71 are boys.According to the statistics given by the Directorate, as many as 12,690 schools have registered to appear for the exams. As many as 4,235 differently-abled students also registered to appear for the exams. Among the other districts, Kancheepuram had 52,741 students, followed by Vellore where 50,916 candidates had registered. Chennai had 49,235 students, who were to appear for the exams. The exam which was originally scheduled on March 27, was postponed to June. The State government’s decision to calculate 20% marks from the attendance has played a key role for the Class 10 students, in securing more marks. Even those students, who failed in the quarterly and half-yearly exams secured pass marks with the help of attendance. A senior official from the Education Department told DT Next that many students have secured more than 450 marks out of 500 with the help of marks calculated from the attendance. He said that students, who had high attendance, got 20 marks, which was added to their quarterly and half-yearly marks.

However, more than 5,000 students, who had registered to appear for board exams, could not make it to the result list as they were absent for quarterly and half yearly exams.
