In Theni district, Periyar dam received the maximum amount of rainfall of 124.2 mm. The rain gauge station at Thekkadi stood next recording 67.2 mm.

While the storage in Vaigai dam (71 feet) stood at 30.09 ft, the inflow was 199 cusecs and the discharge was maintained at 72 cusecs. The level in Periyar dam (142 ft) stood at 117.90 ft. Inflow , was 4784 cusecs and the discharge stood at 600 cusecs.

Rain in catchment areas in Tirunelveli and neighbouring Tenkasi districts has pushed up the storage in most dams. While Kodumudiyar received 50 mm of rainfall, Papanasam recorded 33 mm, sources said. The level in Papanasam dam (143 ft), a key source for drinking water and irrigation needs in the region, stood at 67.60 ft with an inflow of 4076 cusecs and discharge of 454.75 cusecs.

Much to the joy of people in Tenkasi, showers brought a good flow in Courtallam Falls on Tuesday, however many were disappointed as they were not permitted to take bath in the falls in Courtallam owing to Covid restrictions. Karuppanathi, Gundar and Adavinainar also received heavy rains and recorded 48 mm, 52 mm and 48 mm respectively.

The storage in Gundar dam (36.10 ft) is almost full following the downpour.

In Kanniyakumari, the level in Perunchani dam (77 feet) stood at 47.90 ft with an inflow of 820 cusecs and discharge of 250 cusecs. The level in Pechiparai dam (48 ft) stood at 29.30 feet and had an inflow of 1073 cusecs and discharge of 682 cusecs.
