In the wake of suspension of the weekly grievance meeting due to COVID-19 lock down, the Tirupur district administration has commenced ‘call grievance redressal system’ for the convenience of the public. On the first day of the initiative, the Collector gave a peaceful hearing to the grievances raised by the public over the phone. He received as many as 95 calls from the public.

After cancelling the weekly grievance day meet, a petition box was installed at the collector office for the public to drop their petitions. These petitions dropped in the box by the public were sent to departments concerned and issues were addressed by officials.

However, in order to prevent the public from visiting the collector office, the district collector has decided to hear the grievances over the phone on the first day of every week.

Official sources said that most of the calls were regarding battered roads, erratic drinking water supply and seeking senior citizen pension, ration cards and land pattas. On hearing the grievances, the collector ordered officers of respective departments to look into the issue and sort it out.

Also, a few petitioners who turned out at the collector office submitted their grievances to officials in person. A farmers group petitioned against reduction of milk procurement by Aavin and on drastic drop in its prices. The public can convey their grievance over the phone on 0421-2969999 from 11am to 1pm on every Monday.
