M Shwetha, a student of MSc (Software Systems) of Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, presented her project on ‘health card’ for embankments on water bodies.

“Loss of life and property during a breach in embankment can be prevented by detecting such breaches through technology. With the help of machine learning, breach patterns in embankments can be studied to take preventive measures,” Shwetha explained during a virtual interaction with Modi from Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET), a nodal centre for the hackathon, said a statement on Sunday.

Also, photos of embankments with information on breaches would be uploaded to a portal, which may be helpful to prevent natural disasters. On seeing it, the Prime Minister asked the student to prepare a training model on embankment for implementation.

Another student, M Kundan from the PSG College of Technology demonstrated the working of a chatbot developed by him to avoid people visiting a police station to lodge complaints.

“The chatbot will take complaints from people just like they do at a police station. It allows users to get basic information and resolve their queries as well. Currently, many people do not report crimes due to stigma and fear. It will be useful in reducing crime rate,” he said. Evincing interest, the Prime Minister asked Kundan to develop the chatbot in all regional languages.
