Higher Education Department meet to discuss NEP today
Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan will meet senior officials of his department on Monday to discuss the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020, and submit their recommendations to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
“The meeting will take place at Secretariat on Monday morning during which the Minister will discuss with officials of Higher Education Department about the pros and cons of the new policy. The recommendations of the department will be handed over to Chief Minister Palaniswami based on which the State government will take a stand on the issue,” said sources in the Secretariat.
The New Education Policy, 2020, that was approved by the Union Cabinet set off debates across the country, including in Tamil Nadu where many academicians raised serious concerns about some aspects of the new policy.
As the State government has not yet taken a decision on the issue, the recommendations of the Higher Education Department would hold the key to its implementation.
“Issues such as three-language policy, introduction of entrance exams for all the courses to join colleges, and relieving colleges from the control of universities and making them autonomous will be the main topics of discussion during the meeting,” added sources from the Higher Education Department.
