CM, Dy CM pay homage to Theeran Chinnamalai
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam were among the Ministers who paid homage to freedom fighter Theeran Chinnamalai on the occasion of his 216th death anniversary.

The leaders followed social distancing norms as prescribed by the Revenue Department while allowing functions held in connection with the birth and death anniversaries of late leaders and freedom fighters.
According to the orders that the Revenue Department recently issued, only up to five political leaders are allowed take part in the birth anniversary celebrations or observation of death anniversaries of political leaders or freedom fighters.
“Permission is granted for celebrating anniversary functions for leaders and freedom fighters. Politicians should follow social distancing norms while garlanding the statues of the leaders,” Chief Secretary K Shanmugam had said in the order.
It was also mentioned that five persons from the family of political leaders or freedom fighters and five persons from “registered political parties” can participate in the anniversary functions after obtaining due permission from the concerned District Collector.
After the orders were passed, the death anniversary of Theeran Chinnamalai was observed according to the guidelines issued by the Chief Secretary. Apart from Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani and Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar garlanded the image and statue of Theeran Chinnamalai in Guindy.
Earlier, the State had banned all the anniversary functions during the first six phases of lockdown from March 24 to July 31. But later, it was relaxed to permit government functions from August.
