Online registration for TNEA admission gains momentum

More than 1.25 lakh students seeking engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu have registered online and the uploading of original certificates begins on Saturday. The number of applicants seeking Arts and Science courses has also crossed the three lakh mark, with uploading of their original mark sheets starting from August 1.

Sources from Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), which conducts engineering counselling, said that 1,25,539 candidates have registered online as on Thursday night.

A senior official from the Directorate told DT Next on Friday that there was a sudden spurt in the increase of application as more than 20,000 students registered themselves online in less than 24 hours.

“On an average, between about 5,000 and 7,000 candidates will be applying for engineering admissions online every day,” he said adding that another 30,000 applicants were expected to add the overall tally since the registration ends only on August 8.

The official pointed out that more number of students registered for engineering admissions this year as the Centre is yet to announce various competitive exams, including NEET and JEE.

Meanwhile, another official from the Directorate of Collegiate Education said that just about four days ago, the number of applicants seeking arts and science courses was about two lakh.

Stating that the marks sheets for Class 12 board exam students were distributed from Friday last, he said that uploading of mark sheets will start from August 1 to August 10, instead of from July 25 to August 5.

Similarly, more than 10,000 students seeking admissions in the State-run polytechnic colleges have registered through online.

In addition, the department also established a control room for students, who can clear doubts with regard to online admission. Students could contact landline numbers such as 044- 22351014 and 044-22351015.

The official pointed out that more than 50 facilitation centres will also be established for the students, who could clear all the doubts about the online admission process.
