Ex-MLA, on the run, nabbed by special team in rape case

Four persons had already been arrested in connection with the incident. According to a petition submitted by the officer of the District Child Protection Unit to the Nagercoil all women police station on July 27, the victim aged 15 was subjected to sexual exploitation and was subjected to torture for the last two years. Investigations revealed that the girl was sexually exploited by those four men besides the former legislator. The accused had perpetrated the crime against the girl in connivance with her mother for monetary reasons.

Acting on the petition, the Nagercoil AWPS registered a case against five persons, including the victim’s mother, under Sections 3 (a), 4, 7,8,11(3), 12 and 17 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Five special teams, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganesan, were formed to nab the accused. The teams are also continuing their investigations to find out if more persons are involved in the crime, sources said.
