Nearly 84 per cent new Covid cases outside Chennai, 88 fatalities in Tamil Nadu

At least 4,707 people were discharged from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu recorded 6,972 new COVID-19 positive cases, from testing 59,584 persons taking the tally of coronavirus infected to 2.27 lakh.
Of the 2,27,688 who tested positive for the virus in the state, 1,66,956 patients recovered as of today, according to data released by ministry of health and family welfare. Nearly 73% of the total coronavirus cases were cured since the outbreak.
The state also recorded 88 deaths on Tuesday, with a total of 3,659 people succumbing to the virus.
Meanwhile, the number of daily new coronavirus cases outside Chennai continues to exceed those within the state capital.
While Chennai is witnessing a mild increase in the number of COVID-19 cases with the city reporting 1,107 cases (96,438 overall cases) on Tuesday, the neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported of 365, 223 and 486 new cases over the past 24 hours. The combined tally of these three districts has crossed 1000 cases in a day.
Virudhunagar gained 577 cases in the last 24 hours. At least 300 cases were reported in Madurai, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli while Coimbatore, Theni and Thiruvannamalai reported more than 200 cases on Tuesday.
Tamil Nadu has tested 24,75,866 samples and 23,83,664 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.
The active cases in Chennai stands at 12,852 while 769 persons were discharged on Tuesday. 24 of the 85 deaths were reported in the state capital.
The number of active cases in the state stood at 57,073.
The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 years went up to 11,379.
